Aaron Smith

Aaron is a multi-award winning cinematographer and director specialising in digital, film and CGI workflows across fictional, commercial, documentary and interactive productions. A Cinematography Masters graduate of the Australian Film Television & Radio School, and with over 10 year experience in the industry, he has collaborated with a diverse range of respected, innovative and awarded producers, shooting throughout Australia and across the world.

With an inquisitive mind, an eye for the unexpected and a sensitive approach to storytelling, Aaron has worked as a director of photography on a range of projects including the narrative comedy Plonk, popular video game L.A Noire, the award winning 4 Corners special Hitting Home and the iView series Hello Stranger. Aaron was also cinematographer on long-form documentary productions Country Town Rescue, What’s The Catch and Stop Laughing…This Is Serious.

He directed the hybrid series Hungry Beast, the controversial documentary series Dumb, Drunk and Racist, investigative series Head First and Chaser series Yes We Canberra, The Hamster Wheel andThe Checkout.

Versatile in styles and genres, Aaron has shot projects recognised with ACS, ACCTA and Walkley Awards, including claimed documentary series The Queen and Zak Grieve.

Aaron recently won the Rose d’Or for Best Reality and Factual Program for his successful ABC series You Can’t Ask That.
